One day, four year old Austin Perine was watching a tv show with his dad about a baby panda that had been rejected by its mother and had to be hand-reared by people. The story made Austin sad and, like most four year olds, sparked a lot of questions. His biggest was if there were people out there who had no one to love them when they needed it. His father explained that, yes, there were.
A lot of kids would have left it at that. But not Austin. He decided that his superhero alter ego, President Austin, had the power to do something about it and asked his parents to stop giving him pocket money and toys so that he could instead buy food for the homeless. And that is what he does. Every week.
I first ‘met’ Austin through this CBS news clip:
The family set up a GoFundMe page so that others could contribute to Austin’s good works and oh what good work he is doing with that help. For example:
#ShowLove indeed. The shelter they are building will provide food, toiletries and drug rehabilitation services and because love begets love, in the last two weeks Austin has raised $55,000 from people around the world to help — proving that love is the greatest superpower around.
Thanks Austin!
