Good evening, kibitzers! Before I get into my topic tonight, a quick note — unfortunately, my work responsibilities have left me with ever decreasing time to spend online, and as such, I need to step back. This will be my last regular KTK diary, though I may step in as needed from time to time. It’s been an honor to write for you for the last year and half, but all things must eventually end. I’ve promised remembrance I won’t be a stranger. :-)
Now, onto the topic at hand — Game Shows! Today’s Cheers & Jeers mentioned Paul Lynde, and his role on Hollywood Squares. I used to watch Hollywood Squares at times, though not the original run. My favorite square was always Jim J Bullock. More regularly, I would watch Let’s Make a Deal!, Press Your Luck, The Price is Right, 25,000 Pyramid, Family Feud, Jeopardy, and Wheel of Fortune. That last was especially fun to watch with my grandmother, who excelled at guessing the puzzles (I suspect her love of crossword puzzles helped).
Lesser known game shows that I nevertheless loved to watch include Card Sharks, Tic-Tac-Dough, Name that Tune, Supermarket Sweep, and Win Ben Stein’s Money. I haven’t really watched any game shows since the mid-90s or so; I’m aware vaguely that The Price is Right and Family Feud continue with new hosts, but I haven’t seen any episodes, so I can’t say how the newer ones compare with the originals.
How about you? Did you watch game shows when you were a kid? Favorites? Which do you watch (if any) to this day?
Kitchen Table Kibitzing is a community series for those who wish to share part of the evening around a virtual kitchen table with readers of Daily Kos who aren’t throwing pies at one another. Drop by and tell us about your weather, your garden, or what you cooked for supper. Newcomers may notice that many who post diaries and comments in this series already know one another to some degree, but we welcome guests at our kitchen table, and hope to make some new friends as well.
As always, this is an open thread and nothing is off topic. What do you want to kibitz about tonight?
