I’ve been mulling over a diary topic in my head, but I’m not quite ready to put it down on paper yet. Which in a round-about way, leads me to today’s topic — outdated sayings. We still say things like “you sound like a broken record,” or “roll up the window,” or “rewind that,” even though the things that originated these phrases (vinyl records, hand cranks for window, cassette/vhs tapes) aren’t really common usage anymore. For that matter:
What about you? Do you still use phrases like these even though they don’t make as much sense today? Or is your language more up to date? What are some of your favorite old-timey expressions?
Kitchen Table Kibitzing is a community series for those who wish to share part of the evening around a virtual kitchen table with readers of Daily Kos who aren’t throwing pies at one another. Drop by and tell us about your weather, your garden, or what you cooked for supper. Newcomers may notice that many who post diaries and comments in this series already know one another to some degree, but we welcome guests at our kitchen table, and hope to make some new friends as well.
As always, this is an open thread and nothing is off topic. What do you want to kibitz about tonight?
