We're hearing over and over again that "Dems ran away from Obama" and that if we had just embraced our own party's achievements more, we wouldn't have had such a dismal election day.
The Athens Banner-Herald, on the other hand, says differently in regards to the Nunn/Perdue rout.
Perdue Win validates anti-Obama strategy
ATLANTA (AP) — In his bid for the U.S. Senate, Republican David Perdue pressed a one-track strategy of hammering his Democratic opponent as a lackey of President Barack Obama and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.
In their paper edition, but not in the online edition (which seems to just be pulling the released general AP story), they mention a phone call in which Obama called a radio station to personally endorse Nunn, which the local right wing seized upon with a massive freak out.
For Georgia, at least, Obama was a liability for Nunn whether she embraced him or ran away from him.
I caught one particularly horrible campaign ad from Deal for Governor last week. It had a voice in menacing tones going "Obama! Nunn! TERRORISM! EBOLA!" It was ridiculous. Just plain ridiculous. Apparently, that message hit home with its target audience.
It's a shame that a moderately successful President should end up such a huge albatross around his own party's neck. But that's racism for you.
