There's a lot of news to share this week, both about the show and the events this week which are the "hot topics" around the Progressive South.
"Progressive Politics: Tennessee Style" (PPTS) is an online radio show that airs every Sunday, from 2:30 PM - 4:30 PM (Central Time) at http://blogtalkradio.com/....
You can call in to (347) 426-3348 during the live show, and talk to our host and special guests. You can listen live, or you can always listen to our shows in the PPTS Archive. During the show, you can also join us in our lively chat room, type in your questions and hear the answers live, on-air.
You can also follow the "work" in the preparation and wrap-up of the show on the PPTS Blog, at http://themodernsouthernprogressive.wordpress.com. You can leave a comment, and join the discussion, suggest topics, or recommend guests.
If you have a topic suggestion, or a guest suggestion for the show, please just send me a Kosmail, and I will respond to you. We are always looking for the highest quality guests possible for our show. So far, I think we've done a really good job on that part, anyway. :)
Follow me just below the squggledoodlethingey fold, and I'll tell you what to expect on this Sunday's Show.
News you can use this week, from PPTS:
* The biggest news about the show itself is that a new FaceBook area has been begun just for the show, and our fans. It will take some time to really "build out" the pages, but at least we do have a place for our fans, followers and listeners to interact, and discover what's going on with the show. It is definitely a work in progress, but at least now the show has a FaceBook home. I hope you will join, like the page, and begin the discussions that will make the show better, more relevant, and a source point of activity, activists, and activism across the Progressive South.
* We also are testing the use of NationBuilder for the show this month. The primary purpose of using NationBuilder is to give the followers, fans, listeners and guests of PPTS a permanent, single home. We are spread out, already across the various social networks. While this is a good thing, it makes it extremely difficult for our small staff (i.e. me) to keep all the different parts of the growing PPTS universe active and informed. We have impacted more than 1,000 listeners in seven weeks, and the graph is trending sharply upward. NB will potentially allow us to inform, interact, and involve our growing listener base at one time, without having to touch every dot in the PPTS universe. Messaging, donations, blogs, etc. can all be centered in one place. There is a cost for the service, which must be paid for by donations. (But then, so must the show itself!) We have tried several different possibilities for accepting donations. NB seems to be the safest, and most direct method of receiving donations for PPTS. (More on that soon!)
For Sunday, May 13, 2012:
This Episode is titled: "Happy Mother's Day: Especially If You Are Gay!"
~ We will discuss the NC voting results, and the potential impact on the citizens of The Tarheel State. Coincidentally, we will also be discussing:
~ President Obama's announcement this week that he believes that marriage equality should exist for ALL citizens of our nation. We will look at the potential impact on the re-election campaign.
~ We will touch on the dust-up this week regarding the High School Hi-jinks of former Governer, and Republican Presidential candidate Mitt W(illard). Romney, and what if any, impact the revelations this week may have on his campaign.
~ We will discuss Mother's Day, specifically as it applies to single and/or Gay Moms in America today, and why I believe them to be among the largest segments of the American citizenry being negatively impacted by the War On Women. I'll offer a few points to consider for all Southern Progressives, moving forward.
~ Time permitting, we will take a look at some of the other events of this week, including:
Wisconsin's Recall Elections
Arizona's Offer to Seceed from the Union
The recent legislation being "suddenly" considered in the US Congress
The Michigan Revolt, and what it means to those citizens
The Florida Judge who sentenced a single Mom to 20 years in prison for discharging a firearm in her home--and why.
Texas' decision that Governor Perry's Travel vouchers during his campaign paid for by Texas tax dollars are NOT subject to FOIA requests.
Georgia's recent Abortion Bill.
We hope you will join us for this special episode: "Happy Mother's Day: Especially If You Are Gay!"
I'd like to wish everyone here a very Happy Mother's Day, 2012. If you have one, or are one, know that you are loved, and highly blessed. Let your Mom(s) know that, and act like it in their presence this Sunday.
If your Mom has "moved to Heaven", live today in such a way that you know YOUR Mom(s) would be proud of you. My Mom moved home to Heaven on January 9th, 1971. I miss her still. But, I really do try to live each day in such a way that she would smile, and be proud of me. Some days, I think maybe I even make it. I hope you will, too.
