What better way to ignore the greatest peoples movement since the 60s civil rights era than to announce a big, splashy bullshit rally for 10.30.10 devoid of all social justice or political content? Let's just turn our deep concern into a big-assed empty-headed joke. Never mind the suffering masses, the wars, the thievery, the massive rape and pillaging of the American people.
They claim the date has no particular significance, but the timing of the announcement of this little circus is too significant even for the clowns to miss. I only blame Stewart and Colbert for going along with it. I'd like to believe it's not their plan, but that of their corporate masters. Still, there is such a thing as telling the brass to kiss your ass. But that requires integrity.
Am I pissed? You bet your ass!
Any other time I would welcome their mockery of that drooling fool Glenn Beck. I actually like these guys...a lot. Colbert's take down of Bush at the National Correspondent’s dinner was the bravest political comedy I have ever witnessed. But this is beyond the pale. If they are that politically blind as to be unaware of what they're doing to the working classes who are finally coming together to stand up for themselves when no one else will, they shouldn't be allowed on the air. Such naivete is a danger to the public. Of course I'd rather think they are just that boneheaded than that they too are nothing more than corporate tools and sellouts.
For all their talk about Glenn Beck and their silly little rally, they never once mentioned or acknowledged 10.2.10. They just blithely ignored what could be the most significant event since the 1963 March on Washington. Just forget about the hundreds of thousands of working Americans who are finally coming en masse to Washington DC to voice the real concerns of the American people about jobs, justice and peace.
These are who Comedy Central is dissing with this ill-advised attempt to suck up all the oxygen and distract the American people from what's really going on in this country.

It's a good thing they weren't around to kick the civil rights movement in the balls. We cannot afford to let Glenn Beck or Stewart/Colbert hijack the narrative and distract the American people from the pressing matters at hand. We have very real and very serious problems to confront, and no time left for stalling and bullshit. We need to just get our asses in gear and kick out the jams on 10.2.10!
